Server resume example
Server resumes are read by floor managers and GMs who screen on venue type (fine dining, casual, high-volume, banquet, hotel F&B), section size + covers per shift, and POS fluency. Certifications (TIPS, ServSafe, food handler) go at the bottom as facts. Avoid 'passionate about customer service' phrasing — every server resume has it, and it reads as filler before the real content. What separates a candidate is section size, average check, and the systems (Toast, Aloha, Micros, SevenRooms) they know cold.
How to write a strong server resume
- 1Lead each role with venue type + section size + covers per shift. 'Server, fine-dining Italian (90 seats), 6-table section, ~160 covers/shift on Fri-Sat' calibrates the reader in one sentence.
- 2Name the POS and reservation systems: Toast, Aloha, Micros/Oracle, Squirrel, SevenRooms, Resy, OpenTable. Every posting filters on at least one of these.
- 3Quantify average check size and sales pace: 'average $62 per cover, $3.8k in daily sales'. Dollar context makes the scope legible.
- 4Wine, cocktail, and menu-knowledge specifics are worth their own lines: 'Certified sommelier Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory (2023); 80+ bottle wine list fluency'.
- 5Certifications (TIPS/ServSafe, food handler, alcohol service permit) belong in a named block at the bottom. Required, not persuasive.
