Dear Principal and Hiring Committee,
I'm applying for the 4th-grade classroom position at Lincoln Elementary. I hold a New York State Professional Certificate, Grades 1-6 (expiration 2028), and I've spent the last four years in a Title I school teaching a 28-student 4th-grade class where 65% of students are ELL — so the demographics and instructional priorities in your posting are close to what I already do.
Average ELA growth on my 4th-grade class last year was 1.4 grade levels over nine months on NWEA measures. I piloted Illustrative Math rollout across a three-teacher grade team, which moved average Math RIT growth from +8 to +14. I co-wrote a $42k 21st Century Community Learning Center grant funding an after-school STEM club for 60 students, and I'm a mentor teacher to two Teach for America corps members this year. My instructional style leans heavily on discussion-based reading comprehension, structured math number talks, and low-floor-high-ceiling problem sets.
Lincoln's dual-language program and your public commitment to family partnerships are exactly why I'd like to make the move. I'm comfortable with the demographic context and would be especially excited to contribute to grade-team curriculum planning and the family-engagement committee.
I'd welcome the chance to visit a 4th-grade classroom at your school, and I'm available for an interview at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, Ms. Rachel Okonkwo
